Dr. Spencer Hartman is Assistant Professor of Flute at Texas Tech University, Principal Flute of the Roswell Symphony Orchestra, and Piccoloist of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. An active performer and educator, he maintains a versatile career across solo, orchestral, and pedagogical settings.
Dr. Hartman holds degrees from Texas Tech University, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His primary teachers include Gretchen Pusch, Lisa Garner Santa, Michelle Cheramy, and Therese Wacker.
Dr. Hartman has presented lectures, workshops, and performances at regional and national conferences, including the National Flute Association, Texas Music Educators Association, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, College Music Society, Flute New Music Consortium, Texas Flute Society, and Austin Flute Society. He has also presented masterclasses at the CENART National Center for the Arts (Mexico City), Texas State University, Baylor University, Texas Woman’s University, University of Texas at San Antonio, University of Texas at El Paso, and West Texas A&M University.
In addition to his work as a flutist, Dr. Hartman is a dedicated movement educator. He is a Licensed Body Mapping Educator and Training Mentor with the Association for Body Mapping Education, where he currently serves as President of the Board of Directors. He is also a Certified Franklin Method Educator and a Certified Yoga Teacher, integrating these disciplines into his teaching to support efficient, expressive performance.
Spencer plays a Burkart 998 Elite flute with a 10K gold headjoint and a Burkart Elite piccolo with an olive wood Mancke headjoint.
