At Burkart, we have a fantastic group of long-tenured employees who contribute to our success where we now need a senior machinist/programmer/operator with a desire to advance and take responsibility in a small parts, high precision machine shop.


  • Program, set up, validate and operate CNC mills, lathes, WEDM, engraving machines
  • Calculate optimum spindle speed and feed rates for specific machine functions and various types of materials
  • Provide feedback to the engineering team on possible design improvements.
  • Be creative in solving unique manufacturing challenges of prototype and production parts and assemblies including custom tooling and fixturing.
  • Performs manufacturability reviews for new jobs and provides feedback to manufacturing supervision and engineering in order to meet cost targets.
  • Be able to work simultaneously on more than one machine or project as required.
  • Maintain documentation related to the production of parts and assemblies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment and assist in machine and shop maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain tool bin
  • Participate in design review meetings and complete follow up operations
  • Communicate with customers regarding job requirements and changes to internal processes as required
  • Supervise two machinists

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years experience CNC mill and lathe set up and operation
  • Skilled with CAD and CAM software and adaptable to new software and machine advances. Solidworks experience a plus
  • Experience with advanced 3D and high-speed machining required
  • Experience machining a variety of alloys in both steel and brass, is mandatory; experience with precious metals a plus
  • Knowledge of other manufacturing techniques (stamping, forging, rolling, 3D printing) a plus.
