Canadian flutist Gillian Derer is an imaginative emerging artist known for her passion, innovation, and boundless energy! As a soloist, Gillian has performed with ensembles such as the Niagara Symphony Orchestra and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada, and has earned First Prize awards from the Canadian International Music Competition, the Schubert International Music Competition, and the Charleston International Music Competition, among others. Gillian has performed across Canada and the United States in various orchestras, including the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, London Symphonia, Orchestra Toronto, the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra, the National Academy Orchestra of Canada, and the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, with whom she made her Carnegie Hall debut in May 2024.

Gillian also maintains a social media presence of over 40 thousand followers, and has presented her expertise on social media and marketing at Carnegie Mellon University, Western University, The Consummate Flutist Flute Festival, and the National Flute Association Convention. She seeks to use social media to make classical music more accessible worldwide, and to inspire other musicians to diversify their music careers through the use of social media.

Gillian currently studies under the tutelage of Alberto Almarza at Carnegie Mellon University, and performs on a Lillian Burkart 998 Silver flute with 14K Gold Tone Holes, paired with a 14K Gold Mancke Headjoint with a Grenadilla Lip Plate.
